The amazing healing power of Ayurveda for arthritis is not to be underestimated. Today, as diseases like osteo-arthritis are on the increase, modern medicine still holds no answers and offers no effective cures for these conditions. Another problem that sufferers of arthritis face is the deadly side effects of anti-inflammatory medications they are forced to take to relieve the pain of arthritis.

More and more, people are turning to alternative treatment for this crippling disease and one of the most credible treatments is Ayurveda. India has recognized the importance of Ayurveda and the government there have encouraged medical colleges specializing in Ayurveda to be set up.

Ayurveda is a traditional Indian system of medicine which is probably the world’s oldest, it’s literature goes back 5000 years and it’s oral tradition goes back even further.

It is a healing system that has been a big part of Indian daily life for more than 5000 years.

The word Ayurveda means the ‘Science of Life’ – s ‘Ayur’ means ‘Life’ and ‘Veda’ means ‘Science’. .

Ayurveda is a medical, metaphysical healing life science – the mother of all healing arts and to people in India, health is a state of spiritual and physical attainment so the two are combined in their system of medicine.

Ayurveda promotes human happiness, health and creative growth as it is the science of daily living and a system of knowledge which evolved from the sage’s practical, philosophical and religious illumination , rooted in their understanding of the creation.

In Ayurvedic study,  body is made up of Tridoshas (Tri’ means ‘Three’ and ‘Doshas’ mean ‘Humours’) – Vata is Air, Pitta is Fire and Kapha is Water. Good health is achieved when everything is normal in the Tridoshas, balance of metabolic, systemic and excretory functions, all five senses and in the mind and spirit.

There are also a number of constitutional doshas that each individual is grouped in.  They include:

  • Vata which  is predominant in Old age,
  • Pitta in the Middle age and
  • Kapha in Childhood.

According to the season, Kapha is predominant early morning, Pitta in the afternoon and Vata late at night. To maintain good health, we must maintain the balance of our doshas, because an imbalance in them is the cause of illness.

Ayurveda healing helps to restore this imbalance without any side effects. It helps heal conditions including liver disorders, strokes, mental and muscular dystrophy, rheumatic and chronic conditions.

Ayurveda helps the healthy person to maintain health and the diseased person to regain health.
