PATIENT-I am a 48 year old patient of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE), diagnosed around 10 years ago. I am on steroids, which I take every alternate day.My kidneys have been affected, and a sonography showed a lesion on the right kidney. My BP is extremely high, it goes up to 220/120. My uric acid and cholesterol are also high.I am afraid that the steroids are taking a toll on my health. Also, is SLE curable? Could you please suggest alternate therapy or line of treatment?

Systemic lupus erythematosus or SLE or lupus is a chronic auto immune condition where the immune system attacks the body’s cells and tissue, resulting in inflammation and tissue damage. Genetic factors increase the tendency of developing autoimmune diseases. SLE can affect any part of the body but most often harms the heart, joints, skin, lungs, blood vessels, liver, kidneys, and nervous system. The course of the disease is unpredictable, with periods of illness alternating with remission. Lupus can occur at any age, and is most common in women.
